Indian Mountain School (IMS) offers an exceptional, dynamic education for boarding and day students in Pre-K through Grade 9. Set on a stunning 600-acre campus, IMS fosters a joyful, diverse, and supportive community where academic rigor and fun coexist. Students are encouraged to play, develop meaningful relationships, and build a strong sense of self. Our unique physical setting supports students’ exploration of the natural world through an integrated outdoor adventure and education program. Our academic approach blends foundational skill-building with student-centered, curiosity-driven learning. With state-of-the-art athletic and arts facilities, and a deep commitment to character development, we inspire students to become active, responsible participants in their education and community. Our Lower Campus provides a nurturing learning environment for Pre-K through fourth grade, preserving the joy of childhood while encouraging students to discover their full potential. Our Upper Campus engages and challenges students through competitive athletics, advanced studio and performing arts, and a curriculum designed to ensure graduates are exceptionally well-prepared for secondary school.

School Facilities
Our 600-acre campus features multiple, state-of-the-art facilities which support athletic and artistic pursuits. The Morehead Athletic Center has basketball courts, volleyball, a fitness center, and squash courts. Outdoors, we have tennis courts, turf and grass fields, trails for mountain biking, cross country, hiking, and ropes courses. The Qianxun Performing Arts Center includes a dedicated dance studio. We have several fully-equipped art rooms, music studios, and a Maker Space.
Academics
In Pre-K – Grade 4, our inspiring teachers nurture an enthusiasm for learning that will last a lifetime, while fostering the importance of play and the outdoors. In Grades 5-9, students pursue a robust curriculum rooted in academic exploration, service leadership, and outdoor learning. With opportunities to dive into advanced math, music, art, coding, and language, students are prepared for secondary school and beyond, understanding that they have the power to effect real change in the world.
Athletics
The athletics program at IMS provides students with an opportunity to play and compete with 32 teams across 17 different sports. For those athletes looking to take their skills to the next level, our programs offer the coaching and competition to do just that. After IMS, our athletes have gone on to play at the highest levels, from high school to college and beyond.
Arts
Our performing arts program consists of plays, musicals, rock bands, jazz bands, orchestras, and one-on-one instruction. Our faculty have performed on stages across the world, from Broadway to Sao Paulo, trained at Juilliard and Berklee, and are passionate about working with the next generation. Studio Arts offerings range from Advanced Open Studio, to ceramics, and set design. Many of our artists expand upon the training they receive at IMS, finding success in high school, college, and beyond.

Summer Programs
In July and August, we make the most of our 600-acre campus with programs like Theater, Art, Moviemaking, Basketball, Ropes Course Training, Outdoor Leadership, Soccer, and more. Summer program offerings and registration open up in early March.
